Thelephora terrestris
Hi, I am a taxonimist from Mexico and I am studying Thelephora terrestris Ehrh. 1793. I am searching the holotype specimen and I found there are different Exsiccata volumes around the globe published by Ehrhart where this could be included. The possible specimen is on the 178 register in the Plantae Cryptogamae Linneae. Could it be possible that you check on your herbaria for this record?
All the best

The specimen you are asking about is not listed in the Finnish Biodiversity Information Facility’s database (see https://laji.fi/en/taxon/MX.206225/specimens).
Ehrhart’s Plantae Cryptogamae Linneae was a series of collected herbarium specimens with same numbers in separate sheets, and arranged in accordance with the Linnaean system. I believe that all of the new names published in that series are only nomina nuda.
The name was validly published by Fries in Systema Mycologicum Vol. 1 (direct link). The only specimen cited by Fries is indeed Ehrhart’s n. 178. Since several specimens of Thelephora terrestris with the same number 178 have been distributed to different herbaria, I believe, they cannot contain a holotype unless there exist a sheet with the word typus (or equivalent) written by Fries. If a lectotype has not yet been selected, it is possible that one of the specimens with the same number would qualify as such.
According to TL-2/1 there is a complete set of Plantae Cryptogamae Linneae at GOET and UPS, and you have to ask them if they have Ehrhart’s specimen n. 178.
Best wishes
